Julius “Dr. J” Erving: Tribute to a Basketball Legend

When I was a kid, I idolized Julius Erving , also known as "Dr. J,". I even had a satin jacket that had Dr. J embroidered on it. I’m not the only one; millions of kids did, including one named Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Dr. J was a legendary basketball player who redefined the game. His unmatched athleticism, soaring dunks, and graceful style captivated audiences worldwide. A two-time ABA champion and NBA champion, Erving's career was marked by numerous accolades, including being named ABA MVP three times and NBA MVP once. His impact on the sport extended beyond his playing days, as he became a mentor and inspiration for countless athletes.

When I started making this painting, I wanted to make a fitting tribute to this legend, something dynamic, exciting, and capturing the intensity that he displayed on the court. I knew I had to get his signature on this painting; the autograph my childhood self would have dreamed of. I chased him for two years before I was able to catch him at the Chicago Sport Spectacular, the midwest’s largest sports memorabilia, collectables, and card show. It was well worth the wait. He was so gracious and has an amazing signature; I love the gold signature on the red background of this one. I am so excited for someone who loves this painting and this amazing athlete to be able to add it to their collection.
